    Watkins wins memorial award

Thomas Watkins, a member of the Los Gatos Pop Warner Football Panthers last fall, has been presented the Joseph Tomlin Memorial Award by the Peninsula Pop Warner Football League.

Watkins, a student at Union Middle School, was one of two Pop Warner football players to win the award that recognizes youth for scholastic achievement and community service, in addition to their participation in football. He was presented the award by Stanford All-American Troy Walters, the winner of the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top collegiate receiver last fall.

Watkins is the grandson of John and June Estruth of Los Gatos.

    Youth Football

Signups for the 2000 Los Gatos Pop Warner football season are now being accepted.

Pop Warner offers programs for boys and girls ages 7-15 from Los Gatos and Saratoga. Football teams are grouped according to weight and age, and cheer squads are grouped by age.

The organization will add a new instructional, non-competitive entry-level division this season for boys ages 7-9 weighing between 45-85 pounds.

Practice for all teams begins in August.
