The spotlight will be on the accomplishments of older adults in the Los Gatos and Monte Sereno communities when the Los Gatos Weekly-Times teams up with The Terraces to present the Seniors of Distinction Award on May 23.
For the past two years, The Terraces has honored its own residents for their contributions to the quality of life at the retirement community. "This year," says Pamela Bancroft, community relations manager for The Terraces, "we're expanding to make it a communitywide senior recognition, not just a Terraces event."
Dale Bryant, editor of the Weekly-Times, says of the award, "A lot of older people have worked hard to create the community we have today. Many of them are still making a contribution, but they don't always get the credit they deserve. The Seniors of Distinction Award is a way to honor these people."
Nomination forms are available at The Terraces, Whole Foods Market in the Cornerstone Shopping Center, the Neighborhood Center, at 208 E. Main St., at the Town Clerk's office, 110 E. Main Street, and at the Weekly-Times office at 245 Almendra Ave.
Candidates must be 65 or older and live in the 95030 or 95032 zip code areas.Deadline to nominate someone for the award is May 7 at 5 p.m. The forms must be mailed or delivered to Pamela Bancroft at The Terraces of Los Gatos, 800 Blossom Hill Road, Los Gatos, 95032. Forms can also be faxed to 356-9647.
A panel of judges from the Los Gatos community will select this year's winner. The Seniors of Distinction presentation will be made at a champagne reception May 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Terraces.
