CASA chooses winning posters
Fifteen out of nearly 200 student entrants won prizes for illustrating the effects of drugs and alcohol in the annual Community Against Substance Abuse poster contest.
Tiffany Zai, a first-grader at Blossom Hill Elementary, captured the top prize in the K-2 category, while fifth-grader Anthony Morse of Van Meter Elementary placed first among third- through fifth-graders. Sixth-grader Liz Darmien of St. Mary's Elementary garnered the top spot in the sixth-through eighth-grade category, while Michael Chen of Los Gatos High School (LGHS) produced the best high school entry.
Second-place winners included Rodd Farhadi, a first-grader at Daves Avenue Elementary; Brendan Maher, a fifth-grader at Van Meter; Dawson Dill and Amy Vosters, seventh-graders at Fisher Middle School; and Chris Rolsko of the Nova program.
Sudarshan Seshadri, a first-grader at Blossom Hill, won third prize for K-2, while Daniel Ouellet, a fifth-grader at Van Meter, and Dominik Vaclav Vlasak, a fourth-grader at Lexington Elementary, tied for third place among the third-through fifth-graders. Other third-place winners were sixth-grader Nicole Silva of St. Mary's, eighth-grader Jen Fish of C.T. English Middle School and Rebecca Zullo of Los Gatos High.
Twenty-one other students received honorable mentions: Will Hess, Corinna Kalogeropulou and Alexia Kalogeropulou of Daves Avenue; Kyle Devorkian and Sejin Park of Van Meter; Kath DeLong, Christopher Kolb, Erica Burks, Stephanie Kaufmann, Allison Thielmann, Matthew Fumia and Brenna Griffiths of St. Mary's; Adam Rose of Blossom Hill; Mary Anne Mueller of Lexington; Lynn Szyjewicz and Pilar Svendsen of C.T. English; Fletcher Cole, Grace Huh and Soomin Park of Fisher; and Katy Jackson and Amyel Oliveros of LGHS.
