Town hires new planning administrator
Planning consultant Tom Williams was announced as the new Los Gatos assistant director of community development, effective May 6. Williams, a Millbrae resident, has 16 years of private and public sector experience, working for planning consultant firms and the city of San Diego.
The town has been without an assistant director since Bud Lortz, current director of community development, was formally promoted in February 2001. Lortz says Williams will be involved in the administration of the department on a day-to-day basis and will assist planners with projects as well as help department heads with management and strategic thinking.

Town gets $262,900 from PG&E
As part of its 2001 franchise fee and franchise fee surcharge payments, PG&E has issued a check for $262,904.87 to the town of Los Gatos. Franchise fees are a percentage of what PG&E pays counties and municipalities to run gas and electric service through public streets. Franchise fee surcharges are part of customers' paying third parties for transportation and energy use.
According to PG&E, this year's payments--totaling $145 million to 290 cities and counties--were a 44 percent increase over the 2000 payments, mostly due to increased energy costs.
