The Prowler
Being a mostly outdoor cat, the Prowler is always excited to hear of events that benefit nature and the environment!
On April 20, the Los Gatos Rotary Club and Los Gatos High School Interact Club are cleaning up the school by weeding, planting flowers, washing windows, painting garbage cans and doing other activities. Additional help is welcome; call 408.354.2730, ext. 368, to learn more. Earth Day is just two days later. In its honor, the Los Gatos Senior Center, at 208 E. Main St., is giving away free seed packets and "save our planet" literature from 8 a.m. to noon.
National Arbor Day is coming up April 26. Los Gatos, having earned the distinction of Tree City USA for more than 20 years, will of course be planting trees. Sponsored by the Los Gatos Parks Department, the planting ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at Oak Meadow Park. The community is invited. In fact, why not bring a picnic to eat in the park afterward?
Speaking of parks, nearby Vasona Lake County Park is the venue for WalkAmerica, an annual March of Dimes fundraiser that supports the organization's goal of eliminating birth defects and improving the survival rates of premature and special-needs babies. The walk takes place April 27; for additional information, call 559.244.5777.
On a completely different topic, eight local artists are participating in Womanspeak, a show by members of the South Bay Area Women's Caucus for Art that runs through April 28 at the Triton Museum of Art, 1505 Warburton Ave. in Santa Clara. The artists are Jade Bradbury, Julia Bradshaw, Linda Fillhardt, Marie Grace, Judith Juncker, Ellen Kieffer, Mercy Smullen and Michelle Waters.
