Los Gatos to host back-to-back volleyball tournaments
By Dick Sparrer
It will be high school volleyball at its best when Los Gatos hosts back-to-back tournaments on April 20 and 27 in the high school gym.
The Wildcats will host the Los Gatos JV Invitational on April 20, and a week later will entertain many of the best teams in Northern California at the Varsity Invitational.
"Many of the coaches have mentioned to me that they are looking forward to this tournament," said Los Gatos coach Tom Jack. "I know my players are, too."
Jack has invited Central Coast Section (CCS) powers Homestead, Saratoga Bellarmine, Mitty, Serra, St. Francis, Mount Madonna, Soquel, Harbor, and San Lorenzo Valley to join his Wildcats as local entries in the tourney. Other teams from as far away as Nevada have been invited to fill out the 16-team field.
Admission is free for the tourney that should figure as a preview for the rugged CCS tournament that's slated for May 9-16.
"The top boys volleyball teams in Northern California have been invited to these two tournaments," added Jack. "The coaches and players are looking forward to this top-level competition."
Tournament play will begin each Saturday at 8 a.m. with the finals at 6 p.m. Admission to the tourney is free for spectators.
