Lila McGrath
Lila June McGrath of Los Gatos died March 13 of lung cancer. She was 67.
McGrath was born June 2, 1928 in Honolulu. She graduated from Stanford University with a degree in biology and worked as a lab technician before her children were born. She was a fly-fisher and artist, specializing in painting portraits, life studies and landscapes.
Survivors include husband Allen K. McGrath of Los Gatos; daughter Valerie Smith of Philo, Calif.; sons Daniel Morton McGrath of Corvallis, Ore. and Donald Hayselden McGrath of Sacramento; grandsons Christopher and Jesse Smith of Philo and step-granddaughter Jamila Breyer of Geneva, Switzerland.
Private services have been held. Donations may be made to the Oncology Day Care Center, Stanford University Medical Center, 300 Pasteur Drive, M211, Stanford, 94305.
Cathryn Jones
Cathryn H. Jones died at her Los Gatos home March 17, following a lengthy illness. She was 85.
Born Aug. 6, 1910 in Michigan, Jones was the widow of Lt. Col. David Emory Jones, who was killed in World War II. A graduate of the College of St. Mary of the Wasatch in Salt Lake City, Jones worked as a librarian at Holy Cross High School in Mountain View, Alma College in Los Gatos and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. Following her retirement, Jones volunteered at the Los Gatos branch of the American Red Cross.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Kirch DeMartini of Saratoga and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass has been held, with interment at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga. Donations may be made to Hospice Charitable Care, c/o Good Samaritan Charitable Trust, P.O. Box 20758, San Jose, 95160, or to a charity of choice.
