Fantasy and fun fill annual Faire

    By Shari Kaplan

The Children's Fantasy Faire, now in its 13th year, takes place on May 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the front lawn of Los Gatos High School on E. Main Street. The festival, suitable for the entire family, offers a midway with carnival games designed for children 7 and under, prizes, arts and crafts, 4-H Club animals, food, drinks, a raffle, an auction and free live entertainment. According to Karen McQuade, one of the event's organizers, last year's event drew between 5,000 and 6,000 children with their families.

Charlotte Diamond, a nationally recognized children's performer, is this year's special guest. She will give two shows, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Diamond, who has recorded several CDs, is known for her silly songs that make both children and adult sing and laugh.

The annual festival is a benefit for the Los Gatos Parent Nursery School, a cooperative preschool in operation since 1946. It is run and taught by parents, under the auspices of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation and the Adult Education Division of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District.

Admission to the Fantasy Faire is free; tickets for Diamond's shows are $5 each. Tickets are available at the Los Gatos Parent Nursery School, 15 Lyndon Ave., or at the Wooden Horse Toy Store, 798 Blossom Hill Road. For more information, call 408.354.1433, or visit www.lgparentnursery.org on the Internet.
