    Restaurant deals with energy crisis

Los Gatos' California Café, located in Old Town, launched an "Unplug and Lighten Up" promotion on April 9. The promotion identifies specific items on the menu that require less energy to prepare and increases awareness of rolling blackouts.

Café management has also renamed certain menu offerings. The "Light for Spring" appetizers, which include chilled oysters and marinated artichoke, take less energy to prepare. "Short Circuit" desserts include "Rolling Blackout Fudge Cake" and "Kilo Lime Pie." Drinks called "Electric Elixirs" are also available.

    Topic of meet involves inmates

The West Valley Bar Association will hold its quarterly meeting on April 27, and hear a presentation on what is being done in the county to release innocent inmates from prison. The meeting is open to the public and will be at noon at Hobee's Restaurant at S. Bascom Avenue in Campbell.

The Association is made up of active, or retired, attorneys or judges from Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga and Campbell. Call Marcia at 408.867.3355 or email marcia@kaplanandkaplan.com.

University dean will address education issues

The local chapter of the League of Women Voters, which has members from Los Gatos, Monte Sereno and Saratoga, will hear a speaker talk about the qualities of a good school and public education. Members of the public are welcome. Deborah J. Stipek, dean of the Stanford School of Education, will speak at the Saratoga Senior Center on April 25, at 7:30 p.m. Call 408.867.VOTE, or log onto www.lwv-lg-s-ms.org.
