The Prowler
April being National Volunteer Month, the Prowler would like to thank all the residents--and non-residents, too, for that matter--who are so giving with their time and energy. Until reading our friendly town flier, The Cat's Meow, this cat had no idea more than 500 people currently volunteer here. Their tasks, to name a few, include cleaning trails, installing art exhibits, running museums, organizing senior citizen activities, running special events and helping with public safety.
On April 27, the town tips its hat to these generous folks with "Volunteer Roundup," a reception for everyone who volunteered in 1999. The event, which begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Neighborhood Center, includes refreshments, entertainment and prizes. All volunteers should have already received their invitations; if not, call 408.354.6820.
And now for something completely different--some of this cat's exotic spotted cousins will be here on April 29, as part of an exhibition of wildlife art at The Virtual Gallery, 105 N. Santa Cruz Ave. In conjunction with the Cheetah Conservation Fund, the gallery welcomes Kgosi and Mopane, a male and female pair of captive-bred cheetahs from South Africa.
Feline fanciers can meet the big cats in presentations at 3, 5 and 7 p.m. Along with checking out the wildlife art exhibit, visitors can also browse among cheetah merchandise, including clothes, stuffed animals, books and jewelry. Proceeds support the CCF, which happens to have a local office right here in Cat Town--236 N. Santa Cruz Ave., Suite 201. For more info, call the CCF at 408.354.4035 or the Virtual Gallery at 408.399.3456
