LG baseball team wins three

Heather Hennessy sets track record

Two firsts, two seconds for Fisher girls volleyball

    By Dick Sparrer

The girls volleyball teams at Fisher Middle School didn't win it all at the season-ending league tournament--but almost.

All four Fisher girls teams reached the championship round, and two brought home titles as the local girls dominated the competition. The Fisher "A" division eighth grade team and "B" division seventh grade team each won tournament championships while the "B" division eighth grade team and "A" division seventh grade team each finished second.

The eighth grade champs swept Redwood Middle School in two games in the semifinals, then beat CT English in two out of three in the finals to claim a crown. Fisher, 7-2 in the regular season, had entered the tournament as the No. 4 seed.

Members of the championship team included Jenna Bertocci, Ali Dodson, Haley Farb, Hilary Lewis, Molly Roberts, Monica Krach, Brittany Shand, Alison Thomas and Chloe Wilder. The team was coached by Chris and Barry Siebenthall.

The seventh grade "B" team, coaching by Barbara Maguire, was also a No. 4 seed after a 6-3 regular season. But Fisher opened up with a two-game win over Rolling Hills in the semifinals, then beat Dartmouth in two to clinch the championship.

Members of the team were Kelsey Hodge, Laura Garnett, Faryn Haines, Giselle Birang, Monica Thomas, Janelle Horn, Danielle James, Desiree McEntee, Sara Ramsey and Jolyn Robards.

The eighth grade "B" team was the third seed in the finals after posting a 7-2 season record. Fisher beat Rolling Hills in two games to advance to the finals, but lost in three games to Ida Price.

Members of the team were Jodi Christiansen, Katie Fink, Courtney Furia, Tracy Georges, Sivanne Korakin, Katie McClenathan, Sally Stanton, Chelsea Starr and Sarah Yuki.

The seventh grade "A" finished second in the tournament. Fisher, the No. 2 seed with an 8-1 regular season record, beat Rolling Hills in two games in the semifinals before losing in two to Redwood in the finals.

Team members included Alexa Anderson, Rachel Gerston, Carrie Gordon, Stephanie Hodgeman, Rebecca Mason, Christina Pasetta, Caroline Stege, Bailey Richardson and Jennifer Werner.
