The Prowler

At an age when many kids are stressing over orthodontics, trendy clothing, early acne and that cute boy or girl in science class, Alexandra Nechita is traveling the world and earning a six- to seven-digit income, all by doing what comes naturally--painting.

The 12-year-old Los Angeleno has already been dubbed "a child prodigy" and "Alexandra the Great" by TV talk show hosts and nationwide magazines. The Prowler has seen some of Alexandra's works and was surprised at the vividly colorful, abstract Cubist style that might have given Pablo Picasso a run for his money if the two had been contemporaries.

Los Gatos' own Virtual Gallery at 59 N. Santa Cruz Ave. is the official authorized dealer in the Silicon Valley area to exhibit and sell Alexandra's work. What's more, Alexandra will actually be at the gallery the evening of April 24 to talk about her artwork. She's already been to six European countries as well as Australia and New Zealand and has completed several commissions, including works for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and Polaroid.

Not bad for a girl whose father fled Communist Romania three months before Alexandra was born, to make a better life for his family. Alexandra came to California as a toddler and was absorbed in coloring books by age 2. As a preschooler, she was flourishing watercolor- and gouache-filled brushes over canvas and soon graduated to oils and acrylics. With more than 250 paintings already under her belt, there's nowhere to go but up for Alexandra the Great.

Call the gallery at 399-3456 for info about the reception. Check out her paintings online at www.nechita.com.
