      Vikes, Jags split wins

      Matt Troedson had four hits to lead the West Valley Community College baseball team to a 10-6 win over San Jose City College last weekend.

      Noah Sweeters (Los Gatos) picked up the mound win for the Vikings, evening his season record at 2-2.

      West Valley had opened the week with a 12-4 win over Mission College. Ryan Becks was the winning pitcher, pushing his record to 9-2, and he helped his cause with a pair of singles.

      Troy Marcyes drove in a pair of runs for the Saints.

      In other junior college baseball action, Scott Grover and Mike Gardner each had two hits to drive in two runs apiece to lead the De Anza College baseball team to a tight 5-4 win over the College of San Mateo.

      In women's softball competition, it was the battle of the best in the conference, and the San Jose City College women's softball team pulled out a thrilling 3-2 win over West Valley.

      Jessica Rose tossed a five-hitter to claim the win that pushed the Jaguars to 13-1 in conference play. West Valley slipped to 13-1 with the loss. San Jose is now 29-12 overall this season.

      West Valley had beaten Hartnell 12-0 on a two-hit shutout by Jennifer Martin. Shannon Sullivan singled and tripled, and Sarah Dudley had two hits to drive in a pair of runs in the win. Kittie Jones drove home two runs, and Kimberly Lax had two hits.
