Old Town outlines a parking plan

A three-level parking garage at the rear of Old Town appears to be the most likely project for the town's Residents and Merchants Parking Committee.

The group has been looking for a new site since a high water table scuttled its proposal to construct a second level of below-ground parking under the University Avenue shops Old Town plans to build. The current plan has one underground parking level.

Developers are drawing up plans and figuring the price of building such a structure on top of the 25-space Mullen Avenue lot behind Old Town, Town Manager Dave Knapp said. The structure would provide 92 spaces, counting the current 25 at ground level, Knapp said. The matter won't go before the Town Council until Old Town comes up with the price.

"Even if the price is good, it has a tougher row to hoe because it's above ground and it's closer to the neighbors," Knapp said.

      Trail Days Festivities

A California Trail Days celebration is set for noon to 4 p.m. April 27 on the Los Gatos Creek Trail at Vasona Lake County Park.

The fair will feature live music, creatures to play with, walls to climb and information on regional trails and trail groups. Parking is available at the Los Gatos High School athletic field or at Vasona. For more information, call 415/948-1829.

      Planners tour work

Town Council members and Planning commissioners will take a three-hour tour April 30 of some of the buildings that resulted from some of their recent planning decisions.

The field trip agenda includes the domed Blossom Hill Pavilion and also the Open Doors housing project, the largest affordable housing project in Los Gatos.

The tour starts with a look at the blueprints in the Town Council Chambers, and then proceeds with a bus tour of the buildings. The public is invited to tour with councilmembers and commissioners.

The tour begins a 5 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers, 110 E. Main Street.
