Police searching for suspect in afternoon bank robbery

    By Gloria I. Wang

Police are looking for a suspect who allegedly entered a Los Gatos bank with a gun and left with an unspecified amount of money.

The man is described as African American, 20 to 30 years old, between 5 feet, 8 inches and 6 feet tall, weighing 175 to 200 pounds. At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing dark clothing and purple gloves, with a gray cloth or scarf wrapped around his head and face.

On April 17 at 4:26 p.m., the man apparently went into the Downey Savings on Blossom Hill Road with a semiautomatic handgun, which he brandished as he demanded money from the tellers. After receiving the money, he fled the bank in an unknown direction.

Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police officers arrived after the robbery and are currently searching for the suspect. The department customarily does not disclose to the public the dollar amounts of stolen currency in bank robbery cases.

Anyone with information relating to the case should call the police at 408.354.8600, or e-mail www.police@town.los-gatos.ca.us.
