Los Gatos will reopen search for planning commissioner
By Gloria I. Wang
Once again, the town is looking for citizen volunteers to serve on the Los Gatos Planning Commission for a four-year term.
One of the seven positions on the commission remains vacant after the town council appointed Joanne Talesfore March 18, only to find out that the vacancy hadn't been sufficiently publicized.
Instead, council members will review applications for the seat on May 20, since the town's policy is to allow 30 days between a notice of vacancy is published and an actual appointment is made.
Talesfore was to replace outgoing Commission Vice Chairwoman Suzanne Müller, who had submitted her letter of resignation on March 18, the day of the town council meeting. Since councilmembers were already conducting interviews to fill the two available slots, they also interviewed for Müller's position. Based on the number of votes received, Mike Burke and Morris Trevithick took the other two vacancies, and Talesfore was to replace Müller.
According to a town staff report, a government code requires all unscheduled vacancies to be posted "no later than 20 days after such vacancies occur."
In the event that others want to apply for the position, the town clerk's office has applications, which are due by 5 p.m. May 10.
The applications include a supplemental questionnaire and a development case study, in which applicants must make a decision on a sample project and explain the decision. In the week preceding the town council meeting, applicants will undergo a brief orientation of the planning commission and its duties.
Talesfore and previous applicants need not submit new forms to reapply.
