    The Prowler

The Rotary Club of Los Gatos is known for doing good deeds in and for the community. This time, however, it needs members of the community to turn the tables and help the club out of a big pickle.

The Rotarians are hosting a delegation of 12 men and one woman from Russia, and they're extremely short on accommodations. The Prowler isn't sure of all the details but learned of the need via an email from Los Gatans Don d'Arms and Eldon Ewing, members of the club's Russian visitor hospitality committee.

The visitors will be here through May 10, so if anyone in or near Los Gatos can serve as host for at least three nights, the Rotarians would love to know about it. Contact d'Arms at 408.356.2903; Ewing is available at 408.776.1365.

Speaking of people helping people, the Assistance League of Los Gatos-Saratoga, a guild of the National Assistance League, is holding an informational coffee on May 1, 9:30-11:30 a.m., for anyone interested in joining this nonprofit group. The event takes place in the Fireside Room of Faith Lutheran Church, 16548 Ferris Ave.

The guild's goal is community service. Its Operation School Bell, which provides school clothes, shoes, backpacks and supplies to needy children in the community, is already well under way. Guild members also lead craft projects at senior centers. Their upcoming projects include the Care for Kids program at Valley Medical Center and the WALTER Program (We All Love to Explore Reading) in our elementary schools. Sounds like a great group! To RSVP for the coffee event, call 408.356.4274.
