The 10th annual Scholastic Classic Race, sponsored by the Los Gatos Elementary Educational Foundation, is set for May 5 on the grounds of Los Gatos High School. The two-mile walk and run helps raise money for physical education equipment and programs at Los Gatos Union School District schools.
The first race begins at 9 a.m.; the second gets under way at 9:30 a.m. Participants may also take part in creative competitions such as "Centipedes," "Fancy Footsies" and "Crazy Hats."
Preregistration is available through May 3 at district schools and at the Athletic Performance and Runners Factory stores in town. A $12 fee includes breakfast, a Scholastic Classic commemorative T-shirt designed by a district student and snacks and beverages following the race. Registration on the day of the race is $14.
The foundation will also award two $100 prizes in connection with the race. One will be given to the class with the highest percentage of race participants, the second to the class that brings in the most T-shirt sales.
