Los Gatos resident Sharon Ann Moore died April 19 at the age of 57 following a battle with lung cancer.

Born Oct. 26, 1940, in Canada, Moore settled in California while still a teenager. She graduated from San Jose High School in 1958 and later graduated from San Jose State University with a bachelor's degree in political science. She worked as an assistant police officer for the San Jose Police Department, from which she retired in 1978.

She also worked as an office manager for the Los Gatos Weekly-Times and as an advertising proofreader with Metro Newspapers in downtown San Jose.

"Sharon had many jobs, but her favorites were the ones at the Weekly-Times and Metro. She loved words, and she enjoyed working with all of the staff. They made her feel young," Moore's friend Toni Miller, of San Jose, said.

In addition to her love of words, Moore also enjoyed handwriting analysis and was often quite accurate in her commentary.

David Garza, Moore's friend and neighbor, also remembers her fondly.

"I'll miss Sharon's keen sense of humor, her love for classic films and her enthusiasm for ice-skating competitions," he says.

"As a lover of garlic, Sharon was one of the few people who could actually enjoy my special Caesar salad," he adds. Garza recalls Moore as an animal lover who had several cats and was always willing to care for a stray and find it a good home.

Moore is survived by nieces Diane Hood of San Diego and Leslie Lloyd of British Columbia, Canada, along with many good friends and neighbors.

The Neptune Society has handled arrangements. A celebration of Moore's life will be held within a few weeks. Those wishing more information can call the Weekly-Times office at 354-3110.
