Opera San José performing

For the grand finale of its 50th anniversary season, the Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Concert Association presents Opera San José on May 3 at 2:30 p.m. in the Los Gatos High School Auditorium, located at 20 High School Court.

The ensemble of three women and seven men give operatic performances in downtown San Jose's Montgomery Theater, as well as recitals, community outreach appearances and school programs. They are part of the smallest professional art company in the United States, founded 15 years ago by Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano Irene Dalis, who later went on to become a San Jose State University professor.

For the May 3 concert, the ensemble will sing selections by Mozart, Donizetti, Bizet, Verdi, Puccini and Rossini, including many familiar arias. Their diction coach for singing in French and German is Leah Frey, a retired foreign language teacher at Fisher Middle School and vice president of the Community Concert board. For ticket information, call Ray Strong at 377-1106 or Ruth Capps at 356-7268.
