      Council Watch

The Town Council took the following actions at its April 21 regular session, from which Jan Hutchins and Linda Lubeck were absent:

      * Accepted a flag from Dave Wachtel of the California Department of Forestry, who came to honor the town's efforts to protect its trees. The State named Los Gatos an official "Tree City U.S.A.," a title that also appeared on the flag.

      * Adopted a resolution authorizing the town manager to buy two used cars from Hertz Car Sales to replace a pair of police vehicles. The vehicle replacement fund contains $15,000 to replace each vehicle. One of the cars was wrecked when a civilian crashed into it, and the other had an expensive transmission failure.

      * Continued to the May 5 meeting an appeal of the Planning Commission's refusal of a High Tech Burrito shop in the Cornerstone Shopping Center. The council will hold a public hearing at the May 5 meeting and then consider the appeal.

      * Established Citizens General Plan Task Force and authorized the planning staff to advertise for professional facilitators to manage the task force.
