There will no team going undefeated in the major division of the Los Gatos Little League this spring--the A's saw to that last weekend.
The A's knocked off the Padres 2-1 in a Saturday game to stick the Pads with their first loss of the year.
Adam Nelson and Brett Roberts combined to toss a two-hitter for the win. Nelson struck out five over the first three innings and Roberts fanned six over the final three.
The A's took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third.
Roberts opened the game with a single, and Derek Tam beat out a bunt single. Two passed balls led to the game's first run. Nelson drew a two-out walk in the third, moved up on a wild pitch and scored the run that would prove the game-winner on a single by Luke Alioto.
The Padres got a run back in the fourth when Adam Crane tripled and scored on an infield out by Carter Wallace. But that was as close as they would get.
The Pads had beaten the A's 6-2 earlier in the week behind the pitching of Bryan Schiefelbein, and Wallace, who tossed three innings apiece in the win. Schiefelbein struck out seven in the win and Wallace fanned six.
Crane slammed a bases loaded triple to drive three runs in a big four-run fifth-inning rally for the Padres. Crane snapped a 2-2 tie with his blast.
In other action, the Rangers beat the Pirates twice.
David Towson's single sparked a three-run rally in the first to lead the Rangers to a 3-2 win over the Bucs. Tyler Doyle and Anthony Burks combined to pitch the Rangers to the win.
J.P. Grist ripped a triple and Eric Brown doubled for the Pirates.
Doyle was 3-for-3 with a triple, and Burks slapped a two-run double in the third inning to lead the Rangers to a 6-5 win over the Pirates.
Grist and Adam Hudson each doubled for the Pirates and 9-year-old Daniel Silva ripped a two-run single.
Alex Rollin and Ben Swartley no-hit the Yankees over five innings to lead the Giants to an 11-3 win. Swartley blastetd a three-run homer in the first in the win and Andy Betzina singled twice.
Jason Livingstone had a two-run double in the sixth for the Yanks.
The Yankees had beaten the Giants 5-3 earlier in the week. Nik Kay and Daniel Elder tossed the Yanks to the win. Kay singled and doubled, Matt Rose cracked a solo homer and Elder doubled.
Rollin belted a two-run triple in the third.
David Holtzman, Jacob Anderson and Liam Smith teamed to toss a shutout in the Indians' 14-0 win over the Marlins. Anderson cracked three doubles in the win, and Andrew O'Gorman, Nick Perrone and Kris Anderson each doubled.
Travis Howell ripped a pair and combined with Brent Millen to toss the Cubs to an 8-3 win over the Expos.
