RAGTIME pianist/singer Max Morath delighted a large audience in the final program of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Concert season April 20. Jack Lucas introduced the entertainer, who proceeded to re-create the musical atmosphere from around the turn of the century, when Scott Joplin, James Scott and Joseph Lamb created a new art form. Morath offered "Living a Ragtime Life" and Irving Berlin's "I Love a Piano." More than a popular entertainer, Morath, a native of Colorado, is a scholar with an M. A. degree in American Studies from Columbia University; he writes and lectures on the country's musical history.
TWO Los Gatos designers were busy preparing for this year's ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) Showcase, a Mediterranean-style villa, at 186 Atherton Avenue in Atherton. David Stonesiefer of Los Gatos Porch was creating an Old World Italian look for the dining room. The three-story house with 25 rooms remodeled by the designers opens May 10, Mother's Day weekend; the showcase continues through June 1. The villa is located in one of Atherton's tree-lined private lanes, and Stonesiefer's dining room reflects the setting with green striped walls.
The second Los Gatos designer, Mary Ann McEwan of The Studio, 1 North Santa Cruz Ave., designed two rooms for the showcase, one an exotic home office, the other a "tongue-in-cheek" bathroom called the Havana Hideaway, where the executive can store his cigars. Tickets at $20 and $15 for groups of 10 or more must be prepurchased. Call 415/562-1960.

MEMBERS of St. Mary's Church of Los Gatos, Armando (Bud) and Mary Lou Flocchini, have made six trips to Bosnia. Following an audience with Pope John Paul, they revisited the Shrine of Medjugorje, a Bosnian village, where millions have flocked to witness miraculous visions since 1981. They found the village quite peaceful but turmoil still in other parts of Bosnia. As sponsors for the Marion Movement, they brought a Bosnian priest to the Bay Area for a talk at the Marriott Hotel. The couple, owners of Durham Meat Co., were longtime residents of Monte Sereno before moving recently to Campbell.
