Antoinette Botsford
As part of the Indian Store's annual Spring Open House, Native American storyteller Antoinette Botsford will be on hand May 2-3 to entertain visitors with both traditional and true tales.
Using drums and songs, Botsford spins yarns based on her French Canadian and Metis (Athabaskan/ Ojibway) heritage. Her repertoire also includes stories from the history and folklore of many other countries.
Botsford's audiences over the years have included prison inmates, church congregations, hospice groups, college assemblies and school-age children from kindergarten through high school. She has toured in 15 states and seven foreign countries.
Indian Store owner Janice Benjamin encourages parents to bring their children to the Open House to hear Botsford's stories. Benjamin has recently returned from a spring buying trip to the Southwest and will present a variety of new merchandise, including Navajo weavings, Pueblo pottery and Navajo, Hopi and Santo Domingo jewelry.
An evening reception with refreshments takes place May 2 from 5 to 9 p.m., with storytelling at 6:30 p.m. On May 3, Botsford will tell stories at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The Indian Store is located at 50 University Ave. in Old Town. For more information, or to advise Benjamin if a large group will be attending one of the storytimes, call 354-9988.
