Classic cars at Lexington
Lexington Elementary School has held its annual Day on the Green fundraiser for decades, but this year the event will feature something new--a classic car show.
The cost is $3.50 per person for the car show, which runs 3-7:30 p.m., May 4, at the school located at 19700 Old Santa Cruz Highway.
The show will feature 15 classic show-quality cars, from a 1914 Model T Ford to a 1998 Ford Mustang, a 1930 Plymouth half-ton pickup to a 1937 Rolls Royce.
People may also pay $10 apiece or $25 per family to attend the rest of Day on the Green, which includes a raffle and auction. Prizes include bottles of wine, baskets created by Lexington students, gift certificates, dinner with Apple Computer founder Steve Wozniak of Los Gatos, and a weeklong stay in Hawaii.
Children may also buy "passports of participation" and participate in "Survive the Lower Field" from 3 to 5 p.m. They will receive scores based on their performance in events that involve athletic endeavors such as throwing, crawling and jumping.
Sharks recognize leadership
Seagate Technology and the Sharks Foundation recognized 68 eighth-graders in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties this year with the 2002 Seagate/Sharks Foundation Eighth Grade Leadership Awards. Two of the students--Laura Benson of C.T. English Middle School and Ashley Quisol of Fisher Middle School--are from Los Gatos.
Seagate and the Sharks Foundation presented awards to an eighth-grader at each participating school who demonstrated academic and social achievement, as well as leadership qualities.
