The Prowler
Sometimes the Prowler feels more like a packrat than a cat! That will be especially true come May 18, when Los Gatos and Monte Sereno hold their annual Community Garage Sale. Although it may sound premature to be discussing this event, the Prowler has a good reason--the registration deadline is May 3.
Folks who'd like their yard or garage sales included on the free maps and flyers the town of Los Gatos prints up for distribution to bargain-hunters should get going ASAP! For registration forms, call Lauren Mende Tacke, the town's recycling coordinator, at 408.399.5796, or email ltacke@town.los-gatos.ca.us.
Speaking of going from house to house, the National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Service, is holding its 10th annual food drive on May 11. In an effort to "stamp" out hunger, carriers are encouraging anyone with a mailbox (which means just about everyone!) to leave out donations of nonperishable boxed, bagged or canned foods on that date. The carriers take care of the rest. The Prowler hears that last year, generous folks donated more than 70 million pounds of food.
Another annual early May event is the Mommy & Me Teddy Bear Picnic, organized by Los Gatos' Wild Bird Center. Set for May 10 from noon to 1:30 p.m., the picnic takes place at Belgatos Park and is for kids 6 and younger and their mothers--grandmothers are welcome, too! Children bring their favorite stuffed animals; parents bring the food and picnic blankets; and Wild Bird Center staffers take care of songs, games and a nature walk. The cost is $10 per family. To reserve a spot, call 408.358.9453.
