Town says yes to house, no to neighbors' appeal
The Los Gatos Town Council affirmed the planning commission's approval for a house to be built at 15451 Francis Oaks Way on April 16. Neighbors had tried to appeal the November 16 approval, because of the potential traffic impact on Francis Oaks Way. The town council denied the appeal, however, because the property owner has agreed to construct three turnouts on the road, which are at the discretion of town staff.
County cuts price of compost bins for May 5 sale
On May, 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Santa Clara County will host a one-day compost bin sale. Compost bins, usually sold for $80 each, will sell for $37.50 each at the sale. The sale will be held at the county service center, located on 1553 Berger Drive, Building One parking lot, in San Jose. Call 408.299.4147.
Local hospital talking with health insurer
Because its existing contract expires on May 9, the Community Hospital of Los Gatos is currently negotiating with Blue Shield of California. The hospital's director of business development, Terry Rutledge, says that the negotiations are "tough" because hospitals must benefit from the contract, as well.
Rutledge also says that it is routine for healthcare companies to send a letter to the hospital 30 days before the expiration of a contract. The Community Hospital of Los Gatos and another insurance company, Blue Cross, had done the same late last year, but no agreement was reached; as a result, Blue Cross no longer serves Community hospital patients.
