Berkeley organist to give recital at St. Luke's Church
St. Luke's Episcopal Church, at 20 University Ave. in Los Gatos, continues its Evensong series on May 6, with a recital by pianist Larry Marietta, following the church's 4 p.m. Evensong service. During the service, which celebrates Good Shepherd Sunday, Father David Breuer will officiate and the St. Luke's Choir will sing
Marietta is the organist for the First Congregational Church of Berkeley and has performed throughout the United States. He is also known for his work as a choral conductor. At the First Congregational Church, he supervises one of the largest church concert programs in the Bay Area.
At St. Luke's, Marietta will perform works by several Baroque composers, as well as more contemporary pieces.
St. Luke's monthly Evensong series is in its third year. Evensong is a musical setting of the Evening Prayer service and includes singing of hymns, psalms, canticles and prayers. It can also include a short sermon, depending on the season and officiating priest. Following the service is the featured concert.
Marietta's performance marks the last of the Evensong series for this season. It will resume in October. During the summer, however, the Sunset Series resumes, which features Strata, Kitka and Brass Quintet Plus One.
Everyone is welcome at Evensong. There is no charge for the concerts, but a freewill offering will be accepted. For more information, call 408.354.2195.
