    The Prowler

Whoever said the best things in life are free sure knew what he or she was talking about! Being a canny cat who values frugality, the Prowler is also pretty good at finding the aforementioned "things."

Everyone will scream for ice cream on May 2, when Baskin-Robbins stores nationwide host a Free Scoop Night from 6 to 10 p.m. That's one scoop only--no double dips--but it's still a delicious deal! Even better, for every scoop served, B-R will make a donation to First Book, a national nonprofit that provides free new books to children from low-income families. For those folks unfamiliar with one of the Prowler's favorite haunts, our local Baskin-Robbins is at 15730 Los Gatos Blvd.

This weekend, The Indian Store--an icon in the Old Town Shopping Center for more than two decades--holds its annual spring open house. The event showcases the new Native American pottery, jewelry, weavings, baskets and artwork purchased by owner Janice Benjamin and her staff this spring.

It also features the works of three Native American artisans: Lawrence and Griselda Saufkie and Joe Tsosie. They'll be available during a May 4 reception from 5 to 9 p.m. and again from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 5. A visitor to previous open houses, this cat can vouch for the impressive array of merchandise, as well as the array of delicious food during the reception!

Music fans will be interested to know of a free concert on May 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Los Osos Cafe/Great Bear coffee shop at 19 N. Santa Cruz Ave. It's an acoustic folk/rock band called Toe Knee and the Dream Acres. That's all the Prowler knows, but the band sounds intriguing!
