Cat's Hill Criterium
The 27th annual Cat's Hill Criterium, considered the most challenging criterium in the state, returns to the streets of downtown Los Gatos on May 12.
Racing in the event, sponsored by Cliniskin and the Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club, begins at 10 a.m. at the start-finish at Tait and Nicholson avenues. Admission is free.
The grueling ride includes the infamous Cat's Hill, a 23 percent grade that riders must climb 10 to 30 times during the race.
Top cyclists who have competed in the Cat's Hill in the past include three-time Tour de France winner Greg LeMond; former Olympians Suzy Pride, Nicole Freedman, Ted Huang and Eric Heiden; former world champion and USPRO champion Karen Kurrech; national USPRO Criterium and track cycling champion Derek Bouchard-Hall; and Antonio Cruz and Dylan Casey, who are now both with Lance Armstrong's US Postal Service Team.
A percentage of the race's profits will be donated to the Los Gatos Elementary Educational Foundation. For more information on the race, visit www.catshill.org/race.

For more information, call Mark Carlquist at 408.354.1955.
Basketball camp
The annual Los Gatos Wildcat Summer Basketball Camp returns to the high school gym in June with two sessions scheduled for players ages 7-12.
The camps, under the direction of Los Gatos boys varsity coach Jim Marino, will be held June 18-22 (9 a.m.-noon each day) and June 25-29 (1-4 p.m. each day), and will emphasize fundamentals in shooting, passing, dribbling, defense and team play. There will be daily drills and games.
The camps will also feature appearances by guest coaches from throughout the Bay Area.
The cost is $90 for each session for $170 for both sessions. Each camper receives a T-shirt, and there will be individual competition, gifts and prizes on the final day of each camp.
For more information, call Marino at 408.354.2730, ext. 269.
