Phyllis Lockwood Canty
Longtime Monte Sereno resident Phyllis Lockwood Canty died in her home, known as the Twin Dolphins, on April 11, of cancer. She was 59.
Born on Oct. 16, 1940, in San Diego, Canty and her family moved to Monte Sereno in 1947. Her late parents were Vice Admiral Charles Andrew Lockwood and Phyllis Lockwood, who played a key role in the founding of the city of Monte Sereno.
A graduate of Los Gatos Elementary School and Los Gatos High School, Canty married the late John T. Canty in 1962. The couple and their children lived in South Bend, Ind., from 1963 to 1970, after which they moved back to Monte Sereno.
Survivors include daughters Hilary Butler of Saratoga and Meredith Canty of Los Gatos; sons Thomas John Canty and Andrew Canty of Monte Sereno and Edward Canty of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial services have been held, with interment at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1150 S. Bascom Ave., San Jose, 95128.
