    The Prowler

Just like it takes all types to make a world, it takes all types of events to make a column, and this one is no exception!

Although canines will never be as cool as felines, the Prowler does have a wary friendship with several dogs. From these, the Prowler heard of a May 6 event sure to appeal to Cat Town's dog lovers. From noon to 2 p.m., Dr. Larry Lachman, author of Dogs on the Couch and host of The Family Animal Show on KAZU FM 90.3, will talk about dog behavior training and sign his book at The Fluffy Puppy at 656-A N. Santa Cruz Ave. To RSVP, call 408.354.0078.

No RSVP is needed for the May 12 reception at 6 p.m. for Painter's Palate: Vision of Food in Watercolor, the latest exhibit in the Los Gatos Arts Commission's Art in the Council Chambers program. The show, which runs until June 30, features works by the Los Gatos Senior Program Watercolor Painting Class. For those who don't know, the Council Chambers are downstairs in the Civic Center, 110 E. Main St.

According to the Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club, it's almost time for the annual Cat's Hill Criterium Cycling Classic! On May 13, downtown will fill with bikers from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will also be food, music and promotional booths. A percentage of proceeds benefit Community Against Substance Abuse. For info, call 408.735.1827.

Finally, don't miss the 50th anniversary open house at Walden West Outdoor School in Saratoga! This all-day event on May 20, includes hiking, sports, nature games, crafts, storytelling, a campfire and a barbecue. One need not be a camp alumnus to attend! Call 408.867.5950 or visit www.sccoe.k12.ca.us/ waldenwest on the Internet for details.
