    Wedemeyer scholarships

    The second annual Charlie Wedemeyer Scholarship Awards Dinner will be held on May 17, 6 p.m., at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, and six deserving athletes will receive $5,000 scholarships.

    All of the winning athletes have overcome some sort of adversity in life, and all have given to their communities.

    Local sports celebrities expected for the awards ceremony include Ronnie Lott, Brent Jones, Peggy Fleming and Chuck Muncie. All money raised from the dinner will support Charlie Wedemeyer Family Outreach, which reaches out to individuals and families coping with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

    Soccer Tryouts

    Tryouts for a Los Gatos Class III under-13 boys fall team will be held May 6-7, 10 a.m.-noon, at Fisher Middle School. For more information, call Beth Hobbs at 408.741.8531.

    Colt Signups

    Signups for the Los Gatos Colt summer baseball season are being accepted. The program is open to boys ages 15-16, and registration is $150 per player. Los Gatos hopes to field two teams for the 18-game season that runs from May 20 to July 9.

    Soccer Signups

    The Los Gatos United Soccer League will hold registration for the 2000 season on May 10, 7-9 p.m., at the Daves Avenue School cafeteria.

    Players must present a copy of their birth certificate, and the registration fee is $95. Registration this year is by walk-in only, no mail-ins will be accepted.
