    Chamber looks at local trends

Will external market forces determine what kind of town Los Gatos becomes?

The Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Subcommittee will have an open meeting next week to talk about how rising rents and e-commerce will affect local business trends and the future economic viability of the town.

Local business owners, managers and employees concerned about these issues are invited to the meeting at 4 p.m. on May 13 at Bakers Square at University Avenue and Saratoga-Los Gatos Road.

The chamber recently formed the Economic Development Subcommittee to try to get a handle on how local businesses can identify ways to deal with changing economic trends.

For more information, call chamber Executive Director Sheri Lewis at 395-5951.

    PG&E substation landscape hearing

After a long and tedious legal battle between neighbors and PG&E over a new substation on Winchester Boulevard at Lark Avenue, just one hearing topic is left: landscaping.

PG&E is scheduled to bring its plans to the town Planning Commission May 12, seeking architectural and site approval of the landscaping around the substation.

A Public Utilities administrative law judge ordered the utility to bring its plans to the town as part of the ruling allowing PG&E to build the substation. PG&E says it expects to wrap up construction on the substation by the end of May.

The Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers. For more information, call 354-6872.
