Peter Kraai
Former Los Gatan Peter T. Kraai died March 31 in Santa Fe, N.M., at the age of 55.
Kraai was born March 25, 1944, in Northern California. After going through Los Gatos schools and graduating from Los Gatos High School, Kraai attended UC-Berkeley, where he received a master's degree in engineering. Following college, he moved to the Southwest, first to Arizona and then, in 1971, to Santa Fe, where he met his future wife Mary when he invited her to play a piano/recorder duet with him.
While living in Santa Fe, Kraai worked for Scanlon and Associates and later for the state of New Mexico as head of hydrographic survey. He enjoyed problem-solving and the challenges he countered while working with the New Mexico water systems.
Kraai enjoyed listening to jazz and flamenco music, spending time in the New Mexican mountains and deserts, cross-country skiing and riding his bicycle and motorcycle. "He was a man of few words," his family recalls, "and to all who knew him well, a valued advice-giver."

Stanley Johnson
Following a long illness, Dr. Stanley L. Johnson--better known to his many patients in the Los Gatos and Saratoga areas as "Dr. Stan"--died in his Saratoga home April 13 at the age of 73.
A native of Nebraska, Johnson graduated from the University of Nebraska, where he earned an undergraduate degree in science and a doctorate in medicine. In 1958, he returned to Highland Hospital and finished his residency. The Johnson family settled in Los Gatos in 1960, where Johnson began the general surgery practice he maintained for 30 years. The Johnsons later moved to Saratoga.
Johnson was an accomplished pianist and an avid photographer. He also enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, jogging, playing bridge and golf, following Nebraska football games and learning the ways of the computer. He had a love of nature, which he shared with his family on hiking, skiing and rafting trips.
Survivors include wife Harriet Johnson of Saratoga; daughters Kathy Johnson of Seattle, Wash., and Sue Johnson of Truckee; son Scott Johnson of Boulder, Colo.; and granddaughters Sarah and Eva Johnson.
