The Prowler
It's that time of year again--time for the Los Gatos Art and Museum Associations to get together and hold their annual Open Juried Show. This year's exhibit runs May 6 to 29 at the usual venue, the Los Gatos Museum of Fine Art and Natural History at 4 Tait Ave--a.k.a. "The Tait Museum" to longtime visitors like the Prowler.
Not limited to Los Gatans or even South Bay artists, this show features the works of several dozen creative-minded individuals from the entire Bay Area. Mediums include oil paints, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, photography, ceramics and sculpture. This cat hears that local artists Mike Linstrom and Diane Wallace have the Herculean task of jurying all this cool art and giving awards to some of the best--a difficult job this indecisive cat is glad to avoid! A public reception for the artists takes place May 9 from 1 to 4 p.m.
The Prowler plans not to avoid the free concert by Four Shillings Short on May 7 from 8-11 p.m. at Blue Rock Shoot, 14523 Big Basin Way in Saratoga. The duo, consisting of Irish import Aodh Og O'Tuama and California girl Christy Martin, plays a musical melange strongly flavored by the tunes of Ireland, Scotland and England, complemented by traditional American music and peppered with the sounds of India. O'Tuama sings and plays the pennywhistle, woodwinds, spoons and dumbek. Martin is a singer as well as player of the hammered dulcimer, mandolin, banjo, sitar and bodhran (Irish drum).
The Prowler recommends that fans of all things Celtic check out the band this week, as they won't be back in the Bay Area for many months. In their absence, of course, there's always their latest album, The Boggy Spew.
