    Wildcats ready for league finals

It was a long time coming, but the Los Gatos swimming team came through last week... at least, the boys. The Gatos boys splashed their way to a 127-43 victory over Homestead, the first win of the league season for the Wildcats. The Los Gatos boys wrapped up the dual meet season with a 1-5 record in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

Things didn't go as well for the Gatos girls. The Wildcats dropped a tough 127-58 decision to the Mustangs to finish a winless season at 0-7.

But with the dual meet season behind them, the Gatos swimmers will hit the water in their quest for individual glories when the league trials and finals are held May 4-7. The Central Coast Section meet is set for May 20-22.

Swimmers Lisa Cristol and Alix Eastman and diver Sara Clark are top candidates for medals in the girls division at the league meet this week. Swimmers Bobby Crowder and Steve Westcott and diver Jonathon Clark should be top contenders for medals among the Gatos boys.

Crowder, Westcott and Clark were among the individual winners for the Wildcats in the team victory over Homestead last week.

Crowder was a double winner for the Cats, taking the 200-yard individual medley in 2:15.61 and the 100 backstroke in 58.91, and Westcott took the 200 freestyle in 1:58.99.

The two also teamed with Chris Lee and Brett Bannon for a win in the 200 medley relay in 1:47.94 and with Taylor Henricks and Adam Mayer for a victory in the 400 free relay in 3:33.22.

Lee chipped in with a first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.83 and B. Bannon took the 100 free in 52.71. They also joined with Mayer and Rich Comeau for a win in the 200 free relay in 1:41.03.

Clark was first in the diving event with 161.0 points with Comeau a winner in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.31, Scott Bannon first in the 50 free in 23.58 and Philip Roan first in the 500 free in 5:37.41.

Cristol was the lone winner for the Gatos girls against Homestead. The senior star took the 200 free in 2:07.08 for the only Los Gatos win of the day.
