Duebelbeis at Nebraska

Ken Duebelbeis of Los Gatos is a member of the starting mound corps at the University of Nebraska. Duebelbeis, a senior southpaw, currently boasts a 2-3 record with a 5.96 earned run average for the Cornhuskers.

Duebelbeis starred as a baseball player at Los Gatos High before going on to a successful community college career at Cañada College in Redwood City. The left-hander was 5-2 for the Colts.

Holloway at Wheaton

Abby Holloway of Los Gatos is having a solid senior season as the starting left fielder and lead-off hitter for the women's softball team at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill.

Holloway, a graduate of Valley Christian locally, is hitting .286 with three doubles, 17 runs scored, nine runs batted in and seven stolen bases for Wheaton. The squad's co-captain is a four-year starter at Wheaton, where she ranks second in career stolen bases with 30.

VanDerveer to speak

Stanford University women's basketball coach Tara VanDerveer will be the guest speaker when the Silicon Valley Forum of the Commonwealth Club hosts a program May 19 at the Hilton Hotel in downtown San Jose.

VanDerveer's topic will be "Having a Clear Vision" as she discusses her role as the Stanford head coach, as well as her experiences as the head coach of the 1996 U.S. Olympic team.

The cost is $7 for members of the Commonwealth Club and $10 for nonmembers. The event will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. and the program to follow at 6:30 p.m. at the Hilton, 300 Almaden Blvd. Call 1-800-847-7730.
