Los Gatos Weekly-TimesThe Prowler'Strike It Rich! Discover California State Parks!" This year's slogan for California State Parks Month celebrates our state's sesquicentennial, or 150th anniversary. Throughout May, state parks are holding events highlighting park attributes, educational and recreational opportunities. Among the closest state parks to Los Gatos are Castle Rock, Henry Cowell Redwoods and the Forest of Nisene Marks, all in the Santa Cruz Mountains. For a "virtual visit," check them out on the Internet at www.cal-parks.ca.gov. Info is also available at 1-800-444-PARK. A predominantly outdoor cat, the Prowler has everything necessary for a visit to a park. For those who need a tent, a campstove or hiking boots, Los Gatos' Townwide Garage Sale might be a good place to find them, along with hundreds of other items. The May 9 event, coordinated by Regina Faulkner and Hilton Kwong of the Community Services Department, offers residents a chance to clean up their homes and make some money. HOPE Rehabilitation Services, a nonprofit agency for the mentally challenged, will pick up unsold items. Call 354-6824 for more info on the sale. On May 16, there is more community fun: the annual Daves Avenue School Carnival, held at 17770 Daves Ave. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., kids can play games and win prizes. The Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department and Santa Clara County Fire Department will be on hand with patrol cars, firetrucks, fingerprinting and safety demos. Entertainment includes gymnastics, karate, Irish dancers and jazz. There's also a silent auction and a barbecue by C.B. Hannegan's. Call 395-4480 for more information.
