It could have been Amy LaPine's three first-place finishes.

It could have been Kathy Falkenhagen's two wins in the sprints.

It could even have been Kristen McClenathan's third-place finish in the long jump.

In fact, it was all of those and then some that helped the Los Gatos girls' track and field team to pull out a thrilling 64-63 win over Saratoga in a dual meet in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League last week.

Los Gatos lost both relays to Saratoga, and the Falcons posted seven victories in the 13 individual events contested, but the Gatos depth proved more than Saratoga could handle in the Thursday dual on the Los Gatos track.

LaPine was the star of the day for the Wildcats. The Gatos star was first in the 400 meters in 62.6 with teammate Lina Biber-Ferro second in 63.8. LaPine came back to win the 300 low hurdles in 50.6, and she also won the 1,600 meters in 5:21.7 with Sarah High third in 5:31.9.

Falkenhagen was also impressive for the Cats. The speedster took the 100 in 13.5 and was first in the 200 in 28.7 with Emily King second in 28.8 and Christine Roskos third in 28.9.

King was a winner in the long jump with a leap of 15-412, and McClenathan was third in the event at 14-1012.

High added a second in the 3,200 meters in 12:17.0, with Andie Knudsen third in 12:59.9, and Biber-Ferro was second in the 800 in 2:30.8, with Laura Sund third in 2:39.0.

Annie Farnady was second in the shot put at 30-0 and second in the discus at 105-8. Kathy Rinehart was second in the high jump at 4-8 and Zoe Segnitz was third in the triple jump at 27-1012.

The Los Gatos boys were crushed 105-20 by Saratoga the same day. Zach Reg-ner and Russ Martin were the only winners for the Wildcats in the meet.

Regner ran 4:40.3 to take the 1,600 meters, and Martin stopped the watch at 10:13.8 to win the 3,200 meters.

Los Gatos will now advance to the De Anza Division finals set for May 5 and 7 at De Anza Community College in Cupertino.
