      Iguana Galleries opens doors

For its annual open house May 10 and 11, Los Gatos' Iguana Galleries is celebrating the 60th birthday of Peruvian painter Hugo Lecaros with an exhibit of dozens of his oil and watercolor paintings.

Lecaros has dedicated almost a year to creating original paintings for this event. His recent cubist-influenced works in oils are a departure from his better-known Andean scenes with swirling skies and heavy brush strokes. He's also at home using watercolors, and his one-pass brush strokes portray the adobe huts and purple hills of Cuzco, Peru, with fresh definition.

Iguana Galleries owner Janet Fullmer Bajorek's work will also be on display. Bajorek sculpts clay figures or vignettes that comment on life. Although her work is often serious in content, it can also display what she calls a "gentle humor." She builds hollow sculptures from slabs or coils, or crafts solid models from which she then makes plaster "slip" molds. Kiln-fired stains or glazes complete the process.

In existence for seven years, Iguana Galleries is a comfortable venue--located in part of Bajorek's home--for viewing and purchasing art and art furniture. It operates daily by appointment, except during receptions, when it is open to the public. The gallery is located at 120 Clover Way. The open house runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.
