Police seek man in an alleged kidnap attempt

      By Shari Kaplan

Police are searching for a man who allegedly tried to kidnap a woman who was jogging alone in Vasona County Park. The incident happened at approximately 8:15 p.m. on April 30.

According to Los Gatos police, the 34-year-old woman noticed a man driving an older blue van with no side windows while she was jogging. After calling
out to her, he got out of the van and approached her on foot.

As he got closer, he brandished a large knife and told her to get in the van, according to the police. The woman reported that the man then grabbed her, pushed her into the van and began to drive away.

She was able to open the van's sliding door and jump out while it was in motion. She then ran to a nearby payphone and called police; while she was on the phone, she noticed the blue van was still circling through the park.

Several police officers responded, searching the park and its vicinity for either the suspect or his van. They did not locate him. The woman, who suffered minor injuries to her knees and back after jumping from the van, describes her abductor as a white man in his 30s, with a goatee and brown hair pulled back.

Los Gatos police are continuing their investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has suspect information may call the Los Gatos police investigations bureau at 354-6825.
