      The Prowler

With summer just around the corner--or so it seems with the weather lately and the increasing crowds flocking to the beaches--more and more groups are cramming events into the end of spring. Trouble is, what's a cat to do when there's so much cool stuff happening and so little time? Maybe sharing the wealth will allow more people to partake.

Now that the Sierra snows are melting, why not buy, sell or trade some ski or snowboarding equipment for next season? Come to think of it, how about some camping, hiking, fishing, boating, surfing or sporting gear for the upcoming summer and autumn? All this can be found on one lawn--the Los Gatos High School front lawn--on May 17, when A Place for Teens holds its spring community sports swap. To rent a space to display your wares, call 395-5553. Otherwise, just show up and shop.

Being a predominantly outdoor cat, the Prowler is looking forward to the first of what should become an annual spring garden tour organized by the folks at St. Luke's Church on May 17.

Blooming gardens are lovely, but sometimes allergies get the best of this sneezy feline. For others with the same problem, check out "Allergies, Asthma and Your Family," a free presentation offered by medical personnel on May 15 at the Community Hospital of Los Gatos, located at 815 Pollard Rd. If this sounds like what the doctor ordered, give them a call at 866-4058.

Even in the warm weather, there's always room for tea. In fact, the American Cancer Society's Discovery Shop in Los Gatos is celebrating its first anniversary with "A Mad Hatter Tea Party" from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 10. Check out the upscale resale clothing, housewares, collectibles and other merchandise and enjoy a spot of tea with all the fixings. The shop is located at 39 E. Main St. Donations of good-quality items are always welcome.
