Maurene Garcia carries a wide variety of art and decorator items, including this bassinet, in Accent on Seasons.
Succeeding Angel de las Flores at the corner of N. Santa Cruz Avenue and Petticoat Lane is Accent on Seasons, a shop offering art, seasonal and decorator items, collectibles and a variety of gifts.
Some of the merchandise may elicit welcome surprise from fans of the angel store. In one cozy nook, shoppers discover bubbling fountains, fairy figurines, picture frames and fragranced products for bath and body.
In other areas, figures and sculptures of animals, flowers, hot air balloons and--yes--angels await discovery. Other collectibles include carousels, music boxes, miniature musical instruments and figurines with a children's theme.
A delicious smell of fruit, flowers and spices fills the store, as many shelves are lined with candles (and candleholders) in all shapes, sizes, colors and fragrances, from petite votives to tall, heavy tapers.
In the center of the main room are displays highlighting each season and the holidays it contains. Currently, store owner Maurene Garcia has created a wedding theme in recognition of spring's popularity for tying the knot.
Other products include dried flower topiaries, cards, glassware, jewelry, Judaica, lamps, vases and urns (some imported), sculptures, frosty glass perfume bottles, lamps and miniature scenes encased in pocketwatch fobs.
The shop also carries the work of several established artists, with themes of childhood dreams, pencil renditions of ghost towns and vintage trains, child/ angel portraits and whimsical depictions of today's sports heroes as children.
"We're excited about all the products. We think they're different," says Garcia, who opened this store after 18 years in the travel industry.
