For its 20th annual Symphony Showcase, the San Jose Symphony Auxiliary has chosen a newly built home in Los Gatos as the venue for some two dozen South Bay interior designers, decorators and landscapers to embellish with a variety of creative themes.
The Showcase house, which will be open May 10 through June 8, is a 6,500-square-foot, two-story country home on meadow land with nearby hiking trails and a preserved natural wetland. The grounds feature a freeform pool with rocks and waterfall, sports courts, terraces and patios. The owners of the home, which was only recently completed, will be moving in after the tour is finished.
Among the house's numerous rooms and other areas furnished and decorated for the occasion are the entryway and front stairs, the "great room" comprising a living and dining room, a kitchen and butler's pantry, a library, hallways and a game/card room, computer room, guest room, powder room, master bedroom, master bath, and two boys' and one girl's bedroom and bath.
The outdoor design areas feature the works of a landscape architect and a lawn sod specialist as well as flower planters, a pool and outdoor living space.
The home is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Thursdays, it is also open from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person. All proceeds benefit the San Jose Symphony. Luncheons, for an additional $15, will be served on site from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on each tour day, along with fashion shows presented by local retailers, including Smith Alder of Los Gatos. There is also an onsite gift gallery.
Weekday and evening parking is available at the Los Gatos Presbyterian Church, 16575 Shannon Road; weekend parking is at Fisher Middle School, 17000 Roberts Road. Shuttles will take participants to the home. For more information, call 354-0773.
