    Special town council meeting is scheduled

    The town council welcomes downtown Los Gatos business owners and residents to a special meeting on Tuesday, May 14, where there will be a discussion about the proposed downtown streetscape project. The proposal includes improvements to landscaping, lighting, sidewalks and curbs to make downtown more pedestrian-friendly. Construction on N. Santa Cruz Avenue, between Bachman and Bean avenues, is expected to start in the summer and end before Oct. 31. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the town council chambers at 110 E. Main St.


    Post office to hold canned food drive

    The National Association of Letter Carriers and the U.S. Postal Service will hold its 10th annual Stamp Out Hunger event on May 11. The organizations are asking residents to leave out bags of nonperishable or canned foods next to their mailboxes before their postal carriers arrive on May 11.


    Fundraiser will honor Bingham

    A San Francisco club will host a fundraiser on May 18 for a scholarship in the name of Mark Bingham, the 1988 Los Gatos High School graduate who died aboard United Flight 93 on Sept. 11. The Mark Bingham Leadership Fund will cover the costs of tuition and other expenses for students at UC-Berkeley, Bingham's alma mater.

    The event will be at Club NV at 525 Howard St., 6-10 p.m. Gold tickets are $100 and blue tickets are $60. For more information, log onto http://www.acteva.com/go/bingham.
