Friends to hold meeting, present the works of local playwrights
The Friends of the Los Gatos Public Library invite the community to attend its Friday Forum program on May 17 in the Los Gatos Town Council Chambers, located at 110 E. Main St. in the downstairs portion of the Civic Center complex.
The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a short business meeting in which new officers will be voted to the Friends board. Afterwards is a program of four short plays written by two Los Gatos playwrights, Riva Rubnitz and Mary Ann Cook; the latter is also a Los Gatos Weekly-Times columnist. Both of them have been studying for the past several years with playwright Carol Wolf, who teaches at Foothill College.
Rubnitz and Cook will talk about their plays and explain what inspired them to write these particular works. For Rubnitz, they are To Save a Flower-set in a psychologist's waiting room; and Siren Song--a play about seduction that was inspired by a dream. The latter was a recent runner-up in the Santa Cruz Actors' Theatre 10-minute play competition.
Cook's offerings are DnA-which finds Elvis Presley and Princess Diana sparring in a meat market; and No Strings Attached-the tale of a husband-and-wife ventriloquist team who decide to pack up and move.
There is no charge to attend, and light refreshments will be served. The Friends welcome new or prospective members at any time.
