Kelly Johnson is drum major
Marching a step ahead of the game, Los Gatos High School Band and Orchestra Program director Dr. Jim Francisco has named Kelly Johnson to the position of Drum Major of the Wildcat Marching Band for the 2000-2001 season.
A sophomore, Kelly has been a member of the Los Gatos Drumline for two years, and has trained for several more years with Rick Wilson, founder of the Drum Major Academy. Along with these other commitments, Kelly is already the Drum Major of the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets, which she led to first place last year in the Western Regional Division II competition.
"We have an outstanding group of young musicians here, and together they've progressed rapidly to become an excellent band," Francisco says. "I have confidence that Kelly, as drum major, field conductor and leader, will have a significant impact on the band's continued growth and success."
The LGHS Wildcat Marching Band consists of both band and color guard units. The group participates in parades and field competitions throughout the fall. During the spring semester, marching-band members also participate in a concert band.
