    Dwight Mitchell Jr.

    Former Los Gatan Dwight Elbert Mitchell Jr. died in Glendale, Ariz. on April 20, after a battle with cancer. He was 56.

    Born on Sept. 25, 1943, in Phoenix, Ariz., Mitchell and his family moved to Los Gatos when he was a boy. He graduated from Los Gatos High School in 1961 and later graduated from Foothill College and then San Jose State University, with a degree in business.

    He was the owner of Dwight Mitchell Business Investments in Los Gatos for many years. He traveled to printing industry trade shows throughout the world as a partner with the Gutenberg Exposition.

    Five years ago, Mitchell suffered a heart attack and retired with his wife to Glendale, Ariz., where they had a home built.

    Survivors include wife Nora Mitchell of Glendale; sister Ann Mitchell of Los Gatos; brothers John Mitchell of Pleasanton and Maj. Gen. Mike Mitchell of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and niece Debbi Ann Bogen of Santa Clara.

    Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

    Alberta Stoefen

    Former Los Gatos resident Alberta M. Stoefen died on April 11, of complications of Alzheimer's disease in Bend, Ore., where she had been residing. She was 86.

    Born on April 28, 1913, in National City, Calif., Stoefen was a 1937 graduate of UCLA. The next year, she married the late Arthur O. Stoefen, a Stanford University All-American basketball player.

    She worked as a kindergarten teacher in Cucamonga, Calif. before moving to Los Gatos in 1957. She then took a job as a teacher and resource counselor with the Cupertino Union School District, for whom she worked until her 1975 retirement. Afterwards, she served on the boards of the Los Gatos Library and Eastfield Ming Quong Children's Center. She was also a member and past president of the Los Gatos History Club.

    Survivors include daughter Robin Bennett of Bend, Ore.; son Peter Stoefen of Bend; and grandchildren Anna and Jeff Stoefen of Bend.

    Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to Meals on Wheels, in care of COCOA, 1135 SW Highland Ave., Redmond, Ore., 97756.
