'Honor Thy Children'

    The Prowler

For a constantly curious cat, prowling amongst garage sales is a field day! So readers can no doubt guess the Prowler's feelings about the annual Community-Wide Garage Sale, set for May 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Last year during this huge event, this cat discovered one person's trash is indeed another's treasure.

For those who missed the chance last time to traipse through a town-turned-flea market, get ready! Residents in incorporated and unincorporated areas of both Los Gatos and Monte Sereno are participating--look for a map in the May 17 issue of the Los Gatos Weekly-Times. For sellers with items left over, the town has made arrangements with HOPE Rehabilitation Services for pickup. Last year, this amounted to more than 22 tons! For all the details, call 408.354.6824.

For those who prefer to browse in a venue not subject to our fickle weather, check out the annual Open Juried Art Show at the Los Gatos Museum of Art and Natural History at 4 Tait Ave. Jointly held by the Los Gatos Museum and Art Associations, the show runs May 4-28. According to the Prowler's friends at the Tait, last year some 400 artists from throughout California--and a few other states--entered, but only the best make the show. Call 408.354.2646 to learn more.

Also, don't miss the exhibit by Marla Bailey and Cheryl Simeone--the latter a Bay Area local--through May 20, at Tercera Gallery, 24 N. Santa Cruz Ave. Bailey's oil and acrylic paintings explore relationships and events in a blend of playfulness and serious meaning. Simeone's oils and acrylics incorporate, as the gallery explains, "the mysterious language of lines and marks left by the artist." For info, call 408.354.9484.
